HOW DO WE LEARN TO TRUST GOD MORE?
What a beautiful question. The desire to trust God is birthed from a heart that is being wooed by Him. It is evidence of His faithful work in us. How do we yield in response to the wooing from the LORD? In a sense, how do we trust Him to help us to trust Him?
We ask God for help. Sharing our struggle with Him is an invitation for Him to see us. Yes, He already knows our struggle, but the invitations activates the trust in our relationship with Him. We can talk to Him simply, no need for fancy words, and share with Him our struggle, fears, worries, and desires as we would share with a friend.
“Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path… Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness… Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” Psalm 27:11-14 NLT
We remind ourselves of what we know to be true of God. Seek first to know God and His character. Read scriptures that can help remind us who He is, His love, and provision of peace for us.
“He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth…this includes you… he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ… he has brought you into His own presence… you are holy and blameless as you stand before him…” Colossians 1:15-23 NLT
“We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” 1 John 4:16 NLT
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 NLT
We gather strength and encouragement in Christian community by asking others to share their stories and testimonies with us. A simple “Will you share a story of your faith journey with me?” can open up all roads for all kinds of wonderful encouragement and connection. We can also read biographies of others who share the hope of God showing up in their lives.
We seek to bless someone - not out of duty, but out of love. This engages us with the truth of the Holy Spirit at work in us. We may feel like we don’t have anything to give, but we do. Even giving the smallest cup of water to someone can increase our faith and trust in Him. It allows us to experience being a tangible conduit of sharing hope towards another. These actions of blessing others helps us to solidify our trust in God also being a provider for us.
a simple list to help us remember
Ask God for help
Remember what is true (in the scriptures)
Build healthy relationships in Christian community
Bless others
Remember we were made BY Him, FOR Him, and BELONG with Him - This is why we long for an eternal place of security that has no pain, shame, suffering, doubt, or separation. In Christ this place of peace IS our inheritance. We wait and long for what He has promised to us by our faith in Him. He is faithful to keep us and protect us. As we wait, His peace He leaves with us and His Spirit He gives us.
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 NLT
“Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.” John 17:11 NLT
“I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.” John 17:26
It is the God of heaven who has placed this desire to trust Him in us - so He is also faithful to help us grow in trusting Him. In the waiting and the seeking - we will see GOD.
- I hope this is helpful. Praying for you sisters. Laura
